The Need for Speed has been a bait for all the sports car manufacturer in the world. The reigning beauty is Bugatti Veyron although many new releases are in the pipeline which claims to swish past it. Volkswagen owned Tran star is targeting 500 km/h with its Dagger GT roadster which will definitely make Veyron look like a draggy carriage. SSC has SSC Tuatara which is keen to take its vengeance on Veyron for its defeat in 2010 and plan to bring back its glory at 444km/h (276 mph). But as for the reality right now, these are the fastest Production Cars in the world,
10) Maybach Exelero 351 km/h
It might not be justified to include it in this list because; well there is just one car that was manufactured. This diabolic 770 ho two- seater is powered by a twin turbo V12 engine and as designed on special request by Fulda Tires. Who are currently using this car as to test their all new high-end tyres.
The only car was originally bought by André Action Diakité Jackson and made a debut is Jay Z’s famous video “Lost one”. It was then sold to Arnaud Massartic who apparently gave it to the famous rapper Birdman (the claims of this deal however are shadowed by disputes). Controversy apart Maybach Exelero (as claimed by the official site) can achieve a top speed of 351 km/h (218 mph).....
9) Aston Martin One-77 354 km/h
This two door coupé made it first appearance in the 2008 Paris motor show but it wasn’t fully unveiled till the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. The edition was only limitied to 77 pieces which were sold for $ 1,796,530. A 7.3 liter V12 engine and full carbon fiber monocoque chassis makes it one of the most powerful cars ever to be produced. The aluminum body is handcrafted and the car uses a transmission of DB9’s 6-Speed automated manual. With an acceleration of 0-60 mph in appro 3.5 seconds, this car managed to achieve a speed a 354.06 km/h (220.007 mph) that went way beyond its estimated speed.
This car gained instant popularity and soon featured in video games including Asphalt, NFS and GT Racing.
8) Gumpert Apollo 360 km/h
Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH devised this car in way back in 2000 and after 5 years when it finally made its debut in 2005 at the Divinol cup it was later decided to bring it to the roads from the tracks and in July 2008 in featured in Top Gear, although fastest on Power Lap Board it lost to Bugatti Veyron and the one that succeeds it in this list.
Powered by a 4163 cc engine, this street legal car is a two seater with a tubular chromoly frame and has been designed in such a way that the car can even drive upside-down at an apt high speed, although no one has tested it.
7) Lamborghini Aventador 370 km/h
Did you know? Dubai police is the fastest police force on earth because they have a Lamborghini Aventador to chases bad guys. Well, sad for those who own anything less than a Bugatti Veyron. With a Top Speed of 370 km/h (217 mph) Aventador’ s transmission is a single-clutch Seven-speed semi-automatic.
On the 50th anniversary of Lamborghini , it unveiled two new editions of Aventador LP 700-4 coupé the first one was Aventador LP 720-4 50° Anniversario which was limited to 100 units which was unveiled at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show and other was Veneno ( which translates into Venom in Spanish! Mucho gracias) which was presented to the world in 2013 Geneva Motor Show and only three production cars are to be made.
6) Pagani Huayra 372 km/h
The Pagani Huayra is the sweet child of Pagani which succeeds its predecessor Pagani Zonda at a Top Speed of 372 km/h (231 mph). Named after Huayra- tata or the God of Winds in the Inca Empire language it was the (hyper) car of the year in 2012.
Powered by the 5,980 cc twin turbo engine provided by Mercedes Benz AMG division, the chassis is carbotanium monocoque. It has gull-wing doors and the fuel tank is made of ballistic components which make it way better than its predecessors when it comes to aerodynamics. It made its debut in Geneva Auto Salon in March 2011.
5) Zenvo 375 km/h
This Danish beauty rolls from the Præstø from the Danish island of Zealand. The company itself is very new, founded in 2004, the prototype began production in 2009 and only 15 models are slated to be made while the United States production is just limited to 3 cars per year.
Estimated at a price tag of $ 1.8 million this is one high performance sports car. Incorporating the world famous ‘Danish Design’ it has carbon fiber body panel making it comparatively light weight and it also offer keyless entry and satellite navigation. The world waits with abated breath for the Zenvo to come up with their next one.
4) SSC Ultimate Aero XT 414 km/h
Shelby Super cars or rather SSC North America’s model SSC Aero held the Guinness record for being the fastest production card until it was mercilessly dethroned by Bugatti Veyron. This was Shelby’s first super car that earlier were known for their relation with ‘replicars’. The first prototype was built using Diablo replicars chassis its twin turbocharged engine was infused with the transmission of G-64 6-speed (manual). The 2013 SSC Ultimate Aero XT is slated to be built in just five specimens. Which is equipped with a 6.94 liter Twin-Turbo V8 and the expected max speed is estimated to be 443 km/h (275 mph).
To be noted: SSC Ultimate Aero applied to the Guinness book of record with an average speed of 414 km/h in 2007 which beat Veyron until it snatched the title back in 2010. SSC Ultimate Aero XT has not been tested yet. If it does give what is promised then Veyron is up for a slitting fight.
3) Koenigsegg Agera 418 km/h
Hyper car of the year 2010, Koenigsegg Agera is Swedish in origin. A successor to Koenigsegg CCX/CCXR, Koenigsegg added Agera which mean to take action. It was earlier powered by a 4.7 liter V8 engine and twin fixed-vane turbos which was very wisely given away for a 5.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8. Its accelartion is 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds ( 0-62 mph). The body is infused with carbon fiber/Kevlar and the chassis is made of carbon fiber with an added aluminum honeycomb for weight distribution and safety. The wings of Agera, unlike other supercars, use the air pressure to reduce wind resistance.
The 2013 version which was presented in 2012 Geneva Motor Show promises a better performance with upgraded carbon fiber wheels and enhanced aerodynamics.
2) Hennessey Venom GT 427 km/h
The Hennessey Performance Engineering introduced this speed pleasure in the year 2010 and from thereon it went on to grab the Guinness World Record for acceleration time which was 0-300 km/h in 13.63 seconds. Unofficially it is reported to have clocked 14.51, making the quickest production car in the world. In 2013 it tried for the Guinness world record in speed and capped off at 427.6 km/h (265.7 mph) much to the delight of Bugatti Veyron which kept its crown for yet one more year.
It has a modified lotus exige chassis and has a carbon fiber body account to its light weightiness. Venom GT has an edition called the Venom GT Spyder which is an open top version of this car and only five model of this particular edition were rolled out one of which was bought by Steven Tyler.
1) Bugatti Veyron Super Sport 431 km/h
The Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 is from the house of Volkswagen and manufactured in France by Bugatti Automobiles. It is the fastest (Street-Legal) car in the world. It was the car of the decade from 200-2009. On April this year it set the record speed for any roadster in the world clocking at 408 km/h (254.04 mph).
